Overseas building products: your roadmap to Australian compliance

1/2 — Australian certification roadmap: locate six building-product categories in two cutaway house illustrations.
1/2 — Find your product category.

Over the past ten years, our team at North Star Design & Build has helped many overseas manufacturers obtain the certifications and approvals needed to bring their products into the Australian market.

Our work spans almost every major building-product category: structural materials and systems, plumbing and drainage, electrical, gas, fire protection, building envelopes, finishes and waterproofing.

One recurring challenge is knowing where to start. Which requirements apply? Which certification scheme is relevant? Who should you contact?

Today, I’m bringing that practical experience together in a two-image roadmap, explaining the main requirements, processes and organisations in one place.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲:

• 1/2 — Find your product category within the building.
• 2/2 — Follow the relevant requirements, certification routes and contacts, supported by a five-step process.

The guide distinguishes mandatory requirements, voluntary certification and project-specific requirements. More than one pathway may apply, depending on the product, its intended use and the destination state or territory.

Save both images for reference. If you are preparing to supply building products to Australia, our team can help you establish the right compliance pathway.
